Howard, Vaughn In Cheat Mode For Spring

Ron Howard is set to direct Vince Vaughn in an untitled comedy about the darker areas of relationships for Universal Pictures, reports Variety.

According to Variety: Ron Howard has committed to next direct Vince Vaughn in an untitled Allan Loeb-scripted comedy about infidelity, with production starting in the spring.

The story follows a man who learns that his best friend's wife is cheating and must then navigate treacherous waters to decide what do with that knowledge. The script is said to walk a fine line of being comedy and drama, much like "Break-Up" did. Loeb has also penned the scripts for "21," and the upcoming "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps”.

The project marks Howard's first since "Angels and Demons" and the first time he and Vaughn have worked together. Imagine Entertainment head Brian Grazer came up with the idea and is producing with Vaughn.

It's been a while since Howard tackled a comedy film; his previous foray was 1999's "EdTV" (which for some strange reason is a guilty pleasure of mine). But Howard hasn’t been out of touch with comedy completely. He was an executive producer of the super-hilarious television series “Arrested Development” and also provided the narration on the show. Either way, having Howard behind the camera is an instant plus for the project.

Hopefully he can bring Vaughn out of his current rut of mediocre films (“Couples Retreat”, “Four Christmases”) and bring him back to his “Wedding Crasher” days.

The film will begin shooting in Chicago this spring.
