Paramount Vantage Is "Waiting For Superman"
Paramount Vantage has acquired worldwide rights for the new documentary from Oscar-winning "An Inconvenient Truth" director Davis Guggenheim, says The Los Angeles Times.
According to The LA Times: “Paramount Vantage (yes, it still exists) announced this afternoon that it had snapped up worldwide rights to Davis Guggenheim's "Waiting for Superman." The new documentary examines--and indicts--the American educational system and its seemingly intractable problems.”
Guggenheim’s documentary examines the crisis of public education in the United States through multiple interlocking stories--from a handful of students and their families whose futures hang in the balance to the educators and reformers trying to find real and lasting solutions within a dysfunctional system.
After the success of “An Inconvenient Truth,” which tackled global warming, Guggenheim decided to take on another arduous task in trying to help fix the public school system in the US.
As someone who went through New York City public schools his whole life, I can understand why he’d want to make a film examining the public school system. There are a lot of pieces that are broken that need fixing, and here’s hoping that just like his last film somewhat helped the global warming movement, this new film will help do the same.
The film had its world premiere January 22, 2010 at the Sundance Film Festival and Vantage will release the movie sometime in the fall.
