Sam Worthington Set To "Drift"

Although he has been acting for quite a while, Australian actor Sam Worthington stayed below the radar until breaking out in "Avatar" and "Terminator Salvation" in 2009. Following work on those two films, his new fame led him to star in "Clash of the Titans" and got his named linked to just about every notable developing project out there.

Worthington gave an excellent performance in the 2010 film "The Debt" and is also set to star in "The Fields" as well as the sequel to "Clash," titled "Wrath of the Titans" and the actor has just added another project to his already busy future slate.

According to The ABC Screen Australia has given the green light to "Drift," the 70's-set surfing drama starring Worthington, which will be shot in the actor's hometown of Perth.

The story follows the Fisher brothers who "escape their brutal past to start a new life in a remote Australian coastal town". The pair soon battle "suspicious locals, killer waves and ruthless bikers as they struggle to kick-start a business from their greatest passion - surfing,"

In a statement released regarding the film, Screen's acting CEO Fiona Cameron said the film will be: "the first character-driven action movie set in the surfing world since Kathryn Bigelow's Point Break."

This project has a boat load of potential, not only because Worthington is involved, but also because the plot sounds like it could be very interesting and exciting. Worthington obviously will be inspired, considering it will film in his home town, and on top of that not too many films showcase surfing as this one looks to do. The comparisons to "Point Break" is a great jumping off point as well, because I don’t think there is another action movie out there that incorporates surfing so well.

Actor turned filmmaker Morgan O'Neill directs the project while Ben Nott ("Tomorrow When the War Began") will serve as the director of photography. Tim Duffy and Myles Pollard will produce, with filming to begin later this year.

"Clash of the Titans" Sequel Prepping For January

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are not only moving forward with plans for a sequel to this year's "Clash of the Titans" remake--the studio is making it a major priority.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the pair are planning to begin shooting the sequel as early as January with Jonathan Liebesman ("Battle: Los Angeles," "Darkness Falls") the top contender to direct. He would replace Louis Leterrier.

Despite weak reviews, 'Titans' is one of the year's biggest earners with a $486.8 million worldwide haul thus far from a relatively modest $125 million budget.

The plan for the sequel is to properly shoot it in 3D, and part of the reason for the hurry is to lock in star Sam Worthington. The Aussie actor gets to work on the "Avatar" sequel, which likely will shoot sometime in the second half of 2011.

Thankfully, this time around, the "Titans" sequel will shoot in 3D instead of going through a conversion, which will be a plus, and after making so much money the first time around, its no surprise that the studio wants to move fast.

Although Liebesman doesn’t have much experience under his belt, “Battle: Los Angeles” looks as if it will be pretty great and he could spin that into a quality sequel here.

Look for the film to start shooting in January.

New "Clash of the Titans" Posters Released

Bummed because “Clash of the Titans” won’t hit screens until April 2, 2010? Here are several new posters that might make you think twice about the delay as the film is made ready for 3-D.

So far, “Titans” is one of the most anticipated films to see in 2010 and right now, everything looks sweet. Like the trailers, the posters for "Clash of the Titans" are filled with energy as well as some pretty interesting-looking creatures.

Director Louis Leterrier updated "Titans" from the "classic" 1982 movie of the same name.

Not only do the posters provide more detailed looks at Perseus (Sam Worthington), Zeus (Liam Neeson) and some of the other characters, but also the mighty Kraken is revealed for the first time. All I can say that the movie looks big, bad and angry.

As you can see from the posters, the film will be coming our way in 3-D April 2, 2010.

Sam Worthington Skips Through "Fields"

Aussie actor Sam Worthington ("Avatar," "Clash of the Titans") has signed on to star in Ami Canaan Mann's very dark thriller "The Fields," reports Variety.

According to Variety: Sam Worthington in talks to star in the thriller "The Fields," Ami Canaan Mann will direct and her father, Michael Mann will produce.

The screenplay, which is based on a true story, will have Worthington play a homicide detective from Texas investigating a strong of unsolved murders amidst the oil refineries in the state's southeast with the help of a peer from New York. Don Ferrarone, a former DEA agent, penned the script.

There have been a lot of Internet rumors about this film in the past, including Worthington’s involvement, and that Mann would act as director himself. Also a rumor recently circulated that Bradley Cooper was attached to star in the film.

With Worthington announced as the Texas cop, Cooper would presumably play the New York detective. Cooper's involvement isn't official by any means, but given Cooper’s elevated status since the success of “The Hangover,” I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up in “The Fields.”

Worthington seems to be the hottest commodity in Hollywood right now. Following the massive success of "Avatar," the actor will be seen on screens in "Clash of the Titans" this spring, and he's also attached to "Dracula Year Zero." Looks like it’s a good time to be Sam.

Filming kicks off in early April in Louisiana.
