"Clash of the Titans" Sequel Prepping For January

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are not only moving forward with plans for a sequel to this year's "Clash of the Titans" remake--the studio is making it a major priority.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the pair are planning to begin shooting the sequel as early as January with Jonathan Liebesman ("Battle: Los Angeles," "Darkness Falls") the top contender to direct. He would replace Louis Leterrier.

Despite weak reviews, 'Titans' is one of the year's biggest earners with a $486.8 million worldwide haul thus far from a relatively modest $125 million budget.

The plan for the sequel is to properly shoot it in 3D, and part of the reason for the hurry is to lock in star Sam Worthington. The Aussie actor gets to work on the "Avatar" sequel, which likely will shoot sometime in the second half of 2011.

Thankfully, this time around, the "Titans" sequel will shoot in 3D instead of going through a conversion, which will be a plus, and after making so much money the first time around, its no surprise that the studio wants to move fast.

Although Liebesman doesn’t have much experience under his belt, “Battle: Los Angeles” looks as if it will be pretty great and he could spin that into a quality sequel here.

Look for the film to start shooting in January.

New "Clash of the Titans" Posters Released

Bummed because “Clash of the Titans” won’t hit screens until April 2, 2010? Here are several new posters that might make you think twice about the delay as the film is made ready for 3-D.

So far, “Titans” is one of the most anticipated films to see in 2010 and right now, everything looks sweet. Like the trailers, the posters for "Clash of the Titans" are filled with energy as well as some pretty interesting-looking creatures.

Director Louis Leterrier updated "Titans" from the "classic" 1982 movie of the same name.

Not only do the posters provide more detailed looks at Perseus (Sam Worthington), Zeus (Liam Neeson) and some of the other characters, but also the mighty Kraken is revealed for the first time. All I can say that the movie looks big, bad and angry.

As you can see from the posters, the film will be coming our way in 3-D April 2, 2010.

"Harry Potter" in 3D, "Clash of the Titans" in 3D...and Delayed?

Warner Bros. Pictures will release the next two "Harry Potter" films in 3D, reports Heat Vision.

According to Heat Vision: Warner Bros. will release the next two "Harry Potter" films in 3D, a move underscoring the post-"Avatar" rush for extra-dimensional boxoffice.

Studio executives on lots around town have been scrutinizing film slates for opportunities to expand forays into 3D releasing. Warners has been testing footage from its upcoming "Clash of the Titans" -- converted into 3D by an outside vendor -- and the tests have gone so well that execs have decided to release not only "Titans" but also the two-part "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" in 3D.

In a related move, Warners will push back the release of "Titans" one week to April 2. "Deathly Hallows: Part I" is set to unspool Nov. 19, and "Part II" is slotted for July 15, 2011.

Also, with conversion expenses coming down, each film will cost just $5 million to change into 3D. Warners also will absorb an additional $5 million expense per picture to pay for 3D glasses for exhibitors handling the movies.

Although I think it’s never good when a film gets delayed, this could be the exception. Converting the films to 3D will most likely get more people out to the theater, and also probably make the movies even more awesome. They are both filled with action, excitement and battle scenes, which should translate to three dimensions beautifully.

“Clash of the Titans” will be released April 2, 2010.
