Barbra Streisand, Seth Rogen to Star in 'My Mother's Curse' for Paramount

After seeing "Knocked Up" the first time, aside from the fact I thought it was a great film, I was even more impressed with Judd Apatow for realizing that Harold Ramis would be the perfect actor to play Seth Rogen's father because, well, he looks like he could be Seth Rogen's father.

Rogen clearly must have a knack for getting realistic looking onscreen parents because yet again it seems that Rogen has found another perfect match: legendary singer Barbara Streisand.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Paramount Pictures has finally given the green light to the long gestating comedy film "My Mother's Curse."

The film has been in development for a few years and the road trip story follows an inventor of an organic cleaning product (Seth Rogen) who invites his mother (Barbra Streisand) on a cross-country road trip to sell his product to marketing outlets.

However they both have secret agendas. He plans to reunite her with a long lost love from her youth, she plans to help him overcome his fear of commitment.

Anne Fletcher ("The Proposal") will direct the film, which was written by Dan Fogelman ("Cars"). Fogelman wrote the script based on his own experience traveling with his mother.

I think this project has potential to be a truly great comedy film. Folgeman has shown he is a sharp writer and I think Rogen is just comic gold at this point. One thing that I really like about this project is the fact that the two actors playing mother and son actually look like they could be mother and son. While that isn't always the most important thing, I think it will help this particular film, especially since its taken a while to get into production.

Evan Goldberg, Lorne Michaels and John Goldwyn are producing while shooting is scheduled to kick off this spring.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg Move Into "Neighborhood Watch"

When Seth Rogen and writing partner Evan Goldberg take on a script, hilarious things happen--take "Superbad," for example.

So, its welcome news that the duo are set to do a re-write on the upcoming comedy film "Neighborhood Watch," according to Heat Vision.

The story, initially conceived by studio exec John Fox, concerns a suburban "neighborhood watch" group, which is actually a front for dads to get some male bonding time away from the family. Things go awry when the group accidentally uncovers a plot bent on destroying the world. In their somewhat over-enthusiastic approach, they stumble upon supernatural evil afoot on their block.

Shawn Levy will produce the film, in which Will Ferrell was originally slated to star, but no actors are currently attached. The project has jumped around a bit, having once had Levy and David Dobkin attached to direct.

Rogen and Goldberg recently finished "The Green Hornet," which is set for a release in January.
I think this is the perfect type of script for these two take on, considering how successful they have been with writing suburban comedies. From "Superbad" to "Pineapple Express," they have shown that the suburban setting is perfect for their brand of comedy.

Rogen would even be a nice fit to star in the film, but even if he just stays on as a writer this project should be better for it.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Replaces James McAvoy In Comedy

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is replacing James McAvoy as one of the two leads in the upcoming cancer-themed comedy at Summit Entertainment and Mandate Pictures.

According to MTV News: Last August, James McAvoy signed on to star in the formerly titled "I'm With Cancer," a comedy co-starring Seth Rogen about a 25-year-old battling cancer. MTV News has exclusively learned that McAvoy has dropped out of the film after shooting began and that he has been replaced with Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

It's said British thespian McAvoy left the production "due to unrelated circumstances beyond his control," E! Online adding from a source that the cause is a family emergency.

McAvoy's role as the cancer-stricken twentysomething had been touted as the actor's first high-profile role following the success of 2008's "Wanted." The film is based on the true experiences of screenwriter Will Reiser, who successfully waged his own battle with cancer in his 20s.

The other lead role is played by Seth Rogen, who said in a statement that "it's incredibly unfortunate that circumstances outside of everyone's control have taken James away from the project, but, with James's blessing, we were able to have Joseph step in to take on the role of Adam. We all look forward to working with James in the future."

Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anjelica Huston and Philip Baker Hall also star in the film, which began production last month. Jonathan Levine directs from a script by Reiser.

James McAoy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt happen to be two of my favorite young actors, so I’m glad to see that Levitt has picked up another good role. It’s unfortunate that McAvoy had to leave the project, but sometimes, personal things are more important to take care of. Either way, this film should be no worse for the wear, with Levitt on a semi-hot streak after last year's “(500) Days of Summer.”

Filming starts up again next week in Vancouver.

Seth Rogen & Michelle Williams Have A "Waltz"

Seth Rogen and Michelle Williams are set to star in the romantic drama "Take This Waltz," says Deadline Hollywood.

According to Deadline Hollywood: Sarah Polley has secured the financing to direct her script “Take This Waltz.” Williams will star with Seth Rogen in as a character who gets wrapped in a romantic triangle.

The script made the most recent Black List of 2009's best-unproduced screenplays. Polley will set another actor shortly to round out the cast.

The story follows a young woman (Williams) who struggles with her infidelities and the budding realization that she may be addicted to the honeymoon period of her relationships.

Polley’s last directorial effort, 2006's “Away From Her,” which earned her a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination. Williams, will next be seen in the Martin Scorsese-directed Shutter Island, while Rogen has been busy filming “The Green Hornet”.

Although Polley is more known for her acting, she is really changing up that image in recent years. She has shown great skills at directing, as well as writing, including a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay a couple years ago. I also like that fact that Rogen will be in a role where he can show off some of his acting chops, which I don’t think he gets enough credit for.

Filming kicks off this July in Toronto.

Jay Baruchel Talks 'Jay And Seth Vs. The Apocalypse'

A few years ago, a short video featuring Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogen as roommates fighting the apocalypse became a huge hit on the Internet, eventually getting Mandate Pictures to option the idea as a feature.

But ever since there hasn’t been much news on the project, and both Baruchel and Rogen have been very busy. Baruchel is starring in “She’s Out of My League,” due out March 12, 2010, while Rogen has been busy working on “The Green Hornet,” which also will be released later this year.

"Jay And Seth Vs. The Apocalypse" centered on two degenerates trapped inside a home in the midst of an apocalypse while they struggle to put up with the squalor around them and each other.

Baruchel spoke with io9 recently and revealed some details about the upcoming feature adaptation of the short. He divulged some details about when production will begin, and also about some interesting celebrity cameos.

Said Baruchel: "We kind of have more grandiose ideas for what the feature would be. The one thing that I can say--that was my pitch, my idea, that I think we'll end up doing, because it would be foolish not to--I want a recurring joke, because it takes place in Los Angeles, and there's a lot of famous people in Los Angeles, I want a bunch of cameos, but I just want them to be corpses. I want them to be like "Oh God, there's Will Smith's dead body in the corner!" And it would actually be him. So that's my recurring joke for the movie--I want there to be a lot of dead famous people in it."

Baruchel also said that one of the hardest parts about getting the project off the ground is finding time fitting into his and Rogen’s busy schedules.

Said Baruchel: "Seth and I have a lot of things going on, so we just got to figure out a time in the year where it makes sense for us to carve our at least six months to do it. Seth just finished 'The Green Hornet,' he’s producing 'I'm With Cancer' right now. We have a hockey movie we're trying to do [The Goon]. So, it's a toss-up [as to] which one goes first, and I've already said too much in other interviews, which have made myself and Seth look like an ass. But ideally, we start putting it all together. I'd say that we at least start making the thing in some capacity by the end of this year."

Vague, but at least he said it’s this year. Either way, if this project gets off the ground, it could end up being hilarious. Both Rogen and Baruchel are young, talented comedians and their original short was hilarious. If you haven’t seen it, check it out, because it will make you hope that they get this film made.

Seth Rogen, James McAvoy, and Anna Kendrick to Headline Cancer Comedy

Actress Anna Kendrick has joined the cast of the untitled new comedy to be directed by Jonathan Levine (“The Wackness”) and starring Seth Rogen and James McAvoy reports EW.com.

According to EW: James McAvoy stars as 25-year-old Adam, who learns he has cancer, a character based on the real experiences of screenwriter Will Reiser who was diagnosed with cancer in his mid-20s and successfully battled the disease over several years.

Nicole Holofcener (“Friends With Money”) was originally attached to direct but left the project in November due to differences over where to shoot the movie.

Kendrick will play the role of Katherine, a young psychologist assigned to handle Adam's case despite her lack of real life experience. Seth Rogen also has a role in the film and will produce alongside Evan Goldberg and Ben Karlin.

The as-of-yet untitled film kicks off shooting in Vancouver next month.
