DreamWorks goes 'Undercover' with Jason Segel
Actor Jason Segel has been hard at work on his new film "The Muppets" and he may have just landed his next project in the meantime.
According to Variety Segel has joined the comedy project "Undercover Cop," which is set up at DreamWorks Pictures.
Inspired by a true story, Segel is set to play an undercover cop who infiltrated the New Jersey criminal underworld in the 1980s. Jason Micallef ("Butter") will write the script while Steven Zaillian is producing.
Segel is currently still working on the new film "The Muppets," which is due out in November. The actor co-wrote the script of the film, which has an utterly stacked cast including Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Mickey Rooney, British funnyman Ricky Gervais, Charles Grodin and television chef Rachael Ray. Alan Arkin, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Billy Crystal and Wanda Sykes are set to make cameos.
While I am totally pumped to see if Segel can bring "The Muppets" to their former glory, this is a project that people should keep their eyes on. The idea of Segal playing a cop is funny enough, but couple that with infiltrating the mob? This film could end up being comic gold by the time things are all said and done.
"The Muppets" is still a long way away, but it's good to see Segel add a future project to his already excellent comedy resume. The project could be the actor's next film once he completes work on "Muppets."
