Daniel Craig Set for "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"

Though it has been rumored that Brad Pitt was to re-team with his "Fight Club" director David Fincher on the upcoming remake of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," another name has emerged to play the film's male lead--Daniel Craig.

According to Deadline: Daniel Craig has emerged to play the film's male lead, but no offers have been made as of yet.

In the story, Blomqvist is a disgraced journalist in Stockholm who is investigating the 40-year-old disappearance of a industrialist's niece on a remote island. His investigations alongside misunderstood rebellious female hacker Lisbeth Salander uncover religious killings, Nazism, rape, child abuse and murder.

Craig, currently filming Jon Favreau's "Cowboys and Aliens," was slated to shoot the next James Bond film at the end of the year. However, MGM's financial difficulties have likely pushed back filming on 007's next adventure into 2011.

The important role of Lisbeth Salander has yet to be cast, though, with names such as Carey Mulligan, Ellen Page, Natalie Portman, Keira Knightley, Kristen Stewart, Mia Wasikowska, Anne Hathaway and Scarlett Johansson offered up as potentials.

Steve Zaillian ("Schindler's List," "American Gangster") is penning the script based directly on the book rather than the Swedish-language film.

The rumor mill will always swirl especially when you are talking about a project this high profile, but in my eyes either Pitt or Craig would be a fine choice. Craig is free due to the problems with MGM, and I really think he could fit the role, and perhaps give it a bit more authenticity since he's from Europe. Either way, this role would be a score for any actor.

The film is slated for release in December next year.

Fincher Set For "Dragon Tattoo" Remake

The American remake of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is now set to be the next film of David Fincher ("Se7en," "Fight Club") reports The Playlist.

According to the Playlist: The American remake of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is David Fincher's next film.

The first in the "Millennium" trilogy based on late Swedish author Stieg Larsson's international bestsellers, the story follows disgraced journalist Mikael Blomqvist and misunderstood rebellious female hacker Lisbeth Salander investigating the 40-year-old disappearance of a industrialist's niece on a remote island. Their investigations uncover religious killings, Nazism, rape, child abuse and murder.

All three books have already been adapted into a Swedish language film trilogy with the first, 'Dragon Tattoo', having hit theaters in the US, UK and Australia in recent weeks to very good reviews and strong sales for a non-English language film. The next two films are scheduled for release later in the year.

Carey Mulligan has been tipped for the Salander role but the actress herself claims no-one has been in contact. Fincher apparently wants an unknown for the very complex Salander character. Scott Rudin will produce and Steve Zaillian ("Schindler's List," "American Gangster") will pen the script with shooting to kick off around October once Fincher wraps press for his upcoming drama "The Social Network".

Earlier this month there was talk Fincher was to helm the 1970s-set chess drama "Pawn Sacrifice" with Tobey Maguire, however its now been revealed Fincher only met with the filmmakers to advise them rather than take on a directorial capacity.

David Fincher, Charlize Theron Track Killers In "Mind Hunter"

David Fincher is going back to the serial killer well with "Mind Hunter," a drama series he and Charlize Theron are developing for HBO, reports Variety.

According to Variety: Charlize Theron and David Fincher have teamed to develop a drama series, "Mind Hunter," for HBO and Fox 21 revolving around the investigation of serial killers.

Fox 21 has optioned the book "Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit," by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker. The book recounts Douglas' experiences as a top FBI investigator of serial killers and rapists, and the profiling techniques he developed. Scott Buck, an executive producer on Showtime's "Dexter," has been tapped to pen the pilot.

Fincher is a natural fit for a serial killer series, given his track record as the helmer of psychological thrillers such as 2007's "Zodiac" and 1995's "Seven."

Theron's upcoming feature projects include "Fury Road," George Miller's fourth installment of the "Mad Max" franchise. Fincher's projects include "The Social Network," the Aaron Sorkin-scripted picture about the founding of Facebook.

Both Fincher and Theron are top talents in their respective fields, and I think the two of them together could make for a great series. HBO has had a great deal of success with crime dramas in the past with “The Wire,” and “The Sopranos” garnering a ton of awards and praise.

They can only hope “Mind Hunter” has somewhat of the same critical success as those two shows did for the network.
